AXIA HUB, HOSTS THE INAUGUARAL EDITION OF THE “AXIA TECH CHALLENGE” (secondary school edition)

AXIA TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION HUB is a “Value Driven Technology and Innovation Hub” with head office in Jos, Nigeria. The HUB has successfully been focused on adding value to the society, through services, initiatives and products since its existence.

The hub hosted the first edition of its Inter Secondary Schools Coding Competition tagged “AXIA Tech Challenge” or ATC 1.0.

This competition is geared towards igniting and promoting technological skills in pupils, students and the next generation. Technology and innovation have experienced massive growth in recent years, and there was and is a glaring need to position the next generation to fully benefit from this evolution.

Vision and Mission of Axia Tech Challenge

  • Encourage innovation in secondary schools and relevant institutions
  • Contribute to the future of technological development in Africa
  • Position the next Generation for relevance in the Global Tech Ecosystem
  • Build a robust tech community and encourage peer motivation and collaboration

The event is designed to consist of four (4) Stages;

Preliminaries:

Over 20 schools were considered in the preliminary selection stage and 10 schools made it into the quarter finals which held at Axia Hub HQ in Jos.

Quarter final:

The Quarter final stage of competition which held on the 8th of October 2022, had 10 secondary schools as participants, with 3 students representing each participating school, participating schools included;

Omega High School, Baptist Model School, Redeemed People’s Academy, St. Paul’s Academy, Educare Chosen High School, Rhemaville Christian Academy, St. John’s College, Peakfield Academy, Airforce Boys Military School, Jos, St. Augustine’s College, Baptist High School and Federal Government College.

The quarter final stage of the competition was centered on computational skills, general logic, problem solving and reasoning skills, as this forms the basic entry requirement for technology-based careers

According to Nnamdi Ibe, the CEO of Axia Hub, the team behind the Axia Tech Challenge,

“This is beyond a competition, for us, it’s a journey to triggering and producing the next generation of Eddison’s, Tesla’s, Zuckerberg’s and others. We are more interested in the journey for these students and ensuring they gain the skills, consciousness and the momentum they need till they become global beaters in any area of specialization they choose in the global information and technology sector”.

This is one of the many other initiatives Axia Hub is pioneering to contribute to the development of technology in Africa, the quarter finals stage of the event was supported by Elim Table Water, KD Concepts, Omnidot, Peniel Model Prints and Fasassi studios.

The semifinals stage, starts with the collaboration of Axia Hub and the participating school ICT departments in the preparation of the students who made it past the quarter finals round. Focus areas for this stage will be basic programming knowledge and problem solving.

The semifinals will hold at Axia Hub HQ on 29th October 2022, after which 5 schools will compete for the ultimate status of “ATC champions 2022” in the Grand Finale to hold on 19th November 2022.

The Grand finale will involve live coding session as well as other tests of competence.

The Competition is scheduled to hold annually, and plans are on the way for the Geo Political Zone, national and continental editions.
